Salmeterol is a novel, selective, long-acting β 2 receptor agonist, with a single bronchodilation dose lasting for 12 hours. There is also a powerful inhibition of the release of lung hypermast cells, which can inhibit the early and late phase response induced by inhalation antigen, and reduce airway hyperreactivity. For asthma (including nocturnal asthma and exercise asthma), wheeze bronchitis, and reversible airway obstruction.
