Fluorocytosine Usage

Uses

Mainly used for skin and mucous membrane candidiasis, candidiasis endocarditis, candidal arthritis, cryptococcal meningitis and pigment mycosis. Antifungal drugs.

The inhibitory effect on fungi is due to the fact that it enters the cells of sensitive fungi, and under the action of cytosine deaminase, it removes amino groups to form antimetabolites. The latter turns into 5-fluorouracil deoxynucleoside and inhibits thymidine synthase, blocks the conversion of uracil deoxynucleoside to thymidine, and affects DNA synthesis. It has a good inhibitory effect on Candida, Cryptococcus and Geotrichum. It also has an effect on some Aspergillus, as well as Mycosporum and Phial fungus that cause dermatophytes.
