Chemical Properties |
Phthalide is a white solid, soluble in alcohols, ethers and hot water, very slightly soluble in cold water. It can be used as an intermediate in fine chemicals; Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, used for the synthesis of doxepin drugs and dye reduction brown BR, etc. |
Used as an intermediate of fine chemicals. Used in the production of dye intermediates 1,4-dichloroanthraquinone, 1-chloroanthraquinone, anticoagulant phenylindandione, bactericide tetrachlorophthalide, and anxiolytic drug Doxepin. Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, for the synthesis of doxepin drugs and dye Vat Brown BR etc.
One of the production methods: Add 130 mL of water and 160 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid into a reaction flask equipped with a stirrer, reflux condenser, and thermometer. Heat to 145～150℃ under stirring. Slowly add 153g (1mol) of o-cyanobenzyl chloride and hydrogen chloride escapes during the reaction. After the addition, react at 160°C for 2h. Pour it into a beaker after cooling slightly, and let it cool naturally to precipitate a solid. Suction filtration, full soaking with water to remove inorganic salts, suction filtration, washing with water, and drying to obtain 120 g of phthalide. Recrystallized with ethanol to get 83g pure product, mp73～75℃, yield 71%
