Mechanism of action
When we eat, the body secretes incretin, which is mainly composed of pancreatic islet glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP). These two hormones can promote the secretion of insulin by pancreatic β cells, thereby reducing blood sugar. There is also an enzyme in our body, called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which breaks down secretin, and troxagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It will inhibit the degradation of incretin by inhibiting DPP-4, so that incretin will work for a long time, stimulate pancreatic β cells to secrete insulin, and maintain the blood sugar of diabetic patients at a normal value.
