Thymidine is a deoxyribonucleoside containing the thymine base. It is a nucleoside formed by the connection of thymine and D-ribose through a β-glycosidic bond. Thymidine is used in the preparation of anti-AIDS drugs (such as zidovudine, stavudine) and the synthesis of antiviral drugs. It can also be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for direct export. At present, there are only a handful of manufacturers producing β-thymidine in China. |
