| Usage |
D-glucosamine hydrochloride can be made into drugs for treating rheumatoid arthritis, ulcers, and enteritis. It also serves as a nutritional additive in food and cosmetics, and a culture agent for biochemical cells.
Pharmacological Effects
Joint pain caused by wear and degeneration of articular cartilage is partly due to abnormal synthesis of proteoglycans in articular cartilage. Glucosamine is a natural amino monosaccharide that can stimulate chondrocytes to produce proteoglycans with a normal polymer structure, inhibit enzymes (such as collagenase and phospholipase A2) that damage cartilage, and prevent the production of superoxide free radicals that harm cells, thereby delaying the progression of joint pain caused by osteoarthritis.
