Usage
|
Riboflavin is found in green vegetables, soybeans, rice, wheat, yeast, liver, heart and dairy products. In the human body, riboflavin is distributed in various tissues, where it constitutes a coenzyme in the body's hydrogen transfer system. It participates in redox reactions and plays a role in transferring hydrogen atoms. When riboflavin is deficient, biological oxidation is affected, leading to metabolic disorders. The resulting lesions mostly occur in the mouth, eyes and external genitalia, such as angular cheilitis, cheilitis, conjunctivitis and scrotitis.
Riboflavin is mainly used as a pharmaceutical, food additive and feed additive. In pharmaceutical applications, it is used in compound vitamins or vitamin B2 preparations, and also serves as a yellow colorant for sugar-coated tablets and capsules. When used as a food additive, it not only has the function of nutritional fortification, but also acts as a yellow colorant. The LD50 (median lethal dose) of riboflavin in rats via intraperitoneal injection is 560 mg/kg.
