Usage
|
1. It is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain; an agonist of GABAA and GABAB receptors; and can increase Cl⁻ conductivity.
2. γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) has the effect of lowering blood lipids and is suitable for the treatment and prevention of various types of hepatic encephalopathy. It is used to treat poliomyelitis and cerebral hemorrhage, and can also serve as an antidote for gas poisoning and a pharmaceutical intermediate.
3. It is also used in biochemical research and organic synthesis. Its functions include reducing blood ammonia and promoting brain metabolism.
4. It is used for treating various types of hepatic encephalopathy, and also for coma caused by sequelae of stroke, cerebral arteriosclerosis, sequelae of head trauma, uremia, gas poisoning, etc.
