According to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) , the company has made a large-scale discovery in the northern Laizhou Bay of the Bohai Sea —— Foshan Kenli 6-1 oil field, following the 19-6 in the 100 billion cubic meter gas field, another important oil and gas discovery in Bohai Sea. According to the official of CNOOC, Kenli 6-1 oilfield has the characteristics of large reserves, good oil quality and high test productivity. It is found that Kenli 6-1-3 has drilled about 20 meters thick oil layer and drilled to a depth of 1,596 meters. The well alone has been tested to produce more than 400,000 barrels of oil a year. Kenli 6-1 is located in the north of Laizhou Bay in the Bohai Sea, belonging to the largest offshore oil field in Bohai Sea. Since the late 1970s, the area has been explored for more than 40 years with unsatisfactory results. In 2019, CNOOC made major efforts to boost domestic oil and gas exploration and development, launched the seven-year action plan for increasing reserves and production, and continued to search for large and medium-sized oil and gas fields in various maritime areas, making more than 10 new discoveries in domestic maritime areas. Kenli 6-1's successful exploration marks a major breakthrough in CNOOC's oil and gas exploration in northern Laizhou Bay.
