American chemical company Huntsman Group announced on October 21 that its plant in Taiwan’s Guanyin Industrial Zone has officially put into production of 22,000 tons of TEROL® aromatic polyester polyols per year. The Taiwan’s Guanyin plant is Huntsman’s first production in the Americas. The production capacity of TEROL® polyester polyols outside the region expanded again.

During the test run in May this year, Huntsman has successfully produced the first batch of 30 tons of TEROL®250 polyester polyol. Huntsman Group stated that the total investment in a polyol plant in Taiwan amounts to 18.9 million U.S. dollars, approximately NT$5.5 The Guanyin factory covers an area of 3,600 square meters. The entire factory area and production line work chain not only reached the zero-injury work safety standard during the construction period, but the overall schedule was completed one month earlier than scheduled. This investment will expand Huntsman’s Downstream polyurethane production capacity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Peter Huntsman, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Huntsman Group, said: “It took us less than 18 months to build a world-class polyol production facility in the existing compounding plant and provide The group’s Asia-Pacific customers successfully produced the first batch of highly anticipated polyester polyol products. The commissioning of the Taiwan plant shows that we have the ability and opportunity to transform and transform the chemical industry. Huntsman has always been committed to environmental sustainability, focusing on energy conservation, Emphasis on recycling and protection of water resources, which are being implemented in Taiwan one by one. Huntsman uses innovative PET recycling technology to convert PET plastic bottles into polyurethane materials for the production of thermal insulation products. The global annual recycling is equivalent to 1.44 billion 500ml PET plastic bottles are prevented from entering the ocean and causing environmental impact. We hope that through Huntsman Group's recycled plastic recycling solutions, the world can develop sustainably."

The Taiwan plant is Huntsman's third polyester polyol plant in the world that uses a proprietary PET production process. It is estimated that the Taiwan plant will consume the equivalent of 440 million 500ml PET plastic bottles each year, which translates to about 150,000. At the height of Taipei 101, customers in the future can also purchase TEROL® polyester polyol directly from the Taiwan factory.

TEROL® polyester polyol series is an important raw material for the production of polyurethane thermal insulation system, which is the most effective thermal insulation material in the market as measured by R value. Insulation products produced with TEROL® polyester polyols include polyisocyanurate insulation board systems, spray polyurethane foam (SPF) and cast-in-place applications, including door panels, garage doors, household refrigerators and commercial freezers.

PET is one of the most produced plastics in the world. It can be used to produce textile fibers, beverage bottles, packaging films and other industrial and consumer applications. Huntsman Group focuses on recycling plastic recycling solutions, using proprietary production processes, and Recyclable PET plastics are used to produce TEROL® polyester polyols, which can reduce the environmental hazards caused by plastics being buried in landfills or entering rivers and oceans.

Pan Lumin, President of the Asia Pacific Region of Huntsman Polyurethane Division, said: “After the factory is put into production, it will promote our business growth in important downstream industries in the Asia-Pacific region. The polyester polyol produced by the factory will benefit Huntsman and its customers. The device will allow Huntsman to rapidly expand its downstream polyurethane insulation business. Recently Huntsman acquired two world-leading spray polyurethane foam companies, which can quickly and effectively provide customers in Asia Pacific with energy-saving spray polyurethane foam systems. When this product is promoted to the Asia-Pacific market, Huntsman will focus on the downstream industry, restore it based on the basics, continue to innovate, and jointly realize the double harvest of commercial value and environmental protection mission, and inject new momentum into sustainable development."
