Recently, BMJ published a study titled "Use of progressions and the risk of intracranial meningioma: national case control study", which showed that long-term use of progesterone drugs (such as medroxyprogesterone acetate, progesterone acetate, etc.) increases the risk of intracranial meningioma.

The research team evaluated the true risk of surgical treatment for intracranial meningioma in female patients using progesterone drugs, including 18061 female patients who underwent intracranial meningioma surgery between 2009 and 2018.

The results showed that long-term use (one year or more) of medroxyprogesterone acetate was associated with a 5.6-fold increased risk of intracranial meningioma requiring surgical treatment, long-term use of medroxyprogesterone was associated with a 4.1-fold increased risk, and long-term use of progesterone was associated with a 2.7-fold increased risk.
