Traditional chemical industry enters the new "blue ocean"

Previously, my country's EVOH mainly relied on imports. It was not until last year that the EVOH synthetic resin product independently developed by Chuanwei Chemical, a traditional chemical company located in Changshou District, achieved mass production, which filled the domestic gap in this field. This also marks the further realization of Chuanwei Chemical's transformation from a comprehensive chemical industry to a fine chemical industry.


Changshou District has abundant natural gas reserves, and chemical industry has always been the local pillar industry. For a long time, the traditional chemical industry led by Chuanwei accounted for half of the area's chemical industry. The longevity chemical industry is also mainly concentrated in the production of basic chemical raw materials and intermediates. The products are refined and have insufficient high performance, and the added value of the industry is low.


As early as 2012, EVOH R&D was taken as a breakthrough for the transformation and upgrading of the enterprise. On the one hand, the internal R&D institutions were separated and the legal person technology company was established, which attracted a large number of high-end talents through the market mechanism; , Chinese Academy of Sciences and other well-known domestic academicians and experts have established long-term contacts.


Thanks to the organic connection of the industrial chain, innovation chain, and talent chain, it has entered the "fast lane" of transformation and upgrading. In addition to the mass production of EVOH independently developed, in recent years, the introduction of fine chemical products such as PVA, VAE, and vinylon have also led the international and domestic markets, driving the longevity traditional chemical industry to extend to the direction of new materials and completing the conversion of new and old kinetic energy.


In 2011, German BASF, a Fortune 500 company, settled in the Changshou Economic Development Zone. Three years later, its MDI project with an annual output of 400,000 tons was officially put into operation. "Different from traditional chemical products, MDI is a high value-added project using natural gas as a raw material, which can increase the sales value of natural gas per cubic meter from 7-10 yuan to more than 25 yuan." The person in charge introduced that around this leading enterprise , Changshou District attracted a group of upstream and downstream enterprises to gather, and also extended downward the new industrial chain of polyurethane.


"To enter the Changshou Economic Development Zone and put into production the anti-sag coating project, it is very important to value BASF's ability to provide us with raw materials." The relevant person said that MDI needs to be transported in a fully sealed environment, which is likely to occur during long-distance transportation. Phenomena such as running, emitting, dripping, and leaking not only cause waste, but also harm the environment. This is also the most worrying problem.


But the German BASF is less than 300 meters away from the plant. After the pump truck transports the MDI to the plant, it can be transported to the workshop through the pipeline bridge to complete the "one-stop" preparation, canning, labeling, etc. In addition, the two companies are also cooperating in production, education and research. For example, in order to ensure the anti-sagging performance of the coating, BASF has specially added a highly active chemical to the MDI as a customized raw material for the supply.


According to this line of thinking, during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone gathered more than 140 new chemical material companies, forming a new material industry cluster mainly consisting of polyurethane composites, adhesives, PVA optical films, and PPS fibers.


In this largest MMA production base in China, there are less than 30 workers in its core area. From raw material delivery to temperature, air pressure, and hydraulic control, the entire production process is completed by the central control system. Workers only need to toggle the buttons in the control area to complete real-time correction of various parameters.


In today's longevity chemical new material companies, such digital production workshops can be seen everywhere. "We promote the deep integration of the Internet, big data, intelligence and industrial economy through the three dimensions of'point, line and surface'." The relevant person in charge of the Economic and Information Committee of Changshou District told reporters that the transformation and promotion of a single device should be carried out on the "point". Enterprises "replace people with machines"; focus on upgrading production lines and equip complete sets of automated digital production lines on the "line"; focus on system integration, building smart factories and digital workshops on the "face", and improve the level of standardization, automation, digitization, and intelligence in production .


In recent years, Changshou District has invested a total of 5.58 billion yuan, implemented 137 intelligent technological transformation projects, and has built 4 municipal-level intelligent chemical factories and 38 municipal-level digital workshops. Among them, projects related to new chemical materials accounted for 1/ 3.


Relying on innovation-driven, leading leadership, and intelligent upgrading, the industrial cluster effect of Changshou chemical new materials has gradually become apparent, becoming a new growth point for Changshou's industrial economy. Last year, the new chemical materials enterprises in the district achieved an output value of 40 billion yuan, accounting for 40% of the district’s industrial output value.
