Recently, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) decided to merge the relevant headquarters functions in Singapore and renamed the main subsidiary to Mitsubishi Chemical Methacrylate to unify the methacrylic acid currently dispersed in MCC, Lucite International and various regional operations. The methyl ester (MMA) business, effective from April 1, 2021, is aimed at strengthening its global MMA operations.
Starting on the same day, Mitsubishi Chemical (Methyl meth)acrylate Japan Co., Ltd. will be established to strengthen MMA business in the Japanese domestic market.
MCC's MMA business unit has 11 monomer plants and 6 polymer (acrylic resin) plants in the global growth market, and strives to optimize the global product supply network by using digital technology that connects regional production, cost, and supply and demand.
So far, headquarters functions have been performed in Japan and the United Kingdom, but in the future, these functions, including global supply chain management, will be merged at Mitsubishi Chemical Methacrylate Co., Ltd. in Singapore to build a stronger foundation for MMA operations and management. MMA is a raw material used for acrylic resins and can be used in applications including car lampshades, signs, aquariums, paints and building materials. The global MMA demand exceeds 3 million tons, and it is expected to be consistent with the GDP of various countries.
