Recently, Mitsui Chemicals announced that the company will expand the production capacity of its polyurethane (PU) raw material plant in Korea. To this end, the company plans to invest 40 billion yen to rebuild and expand the local production line. After the completion of the project, the local production capacity will be increased to 610,000 tons per year, an increase of about 50% over the current period, in order to respond to and meet the growing demand for high-performance residential insulation materials and electric vehicle (EV) sound-absorbing materials. The expanded product is diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). The project is implemented by Mitsui Chemicals' holding company "Kumho Mitsui Chemicals" in Yeosu City, South Korea, and is responsible for local production and sales. The expansion project is expected to be completed and put into production in January 2024.
