In recent years, various types of polymer materials have been widely used in various industries and fields in our daily life, production and social construction, and have played a huge role in the construction of the national economy. However, such polymer materials are usually flammable, and the application of flame retardants can solve this problem well.

Previously, most of them were mainly brominated flame retardants, but they are non-environmentally friendly products. In recent years, production has been restricted by policies. The development prospect of halogen-free flame retardants for PC is gradually replacing the market share of ABS brominated flame retardants.

Halogen-free flame retardant supply is in short supply and development prospects are better

The global market's growing demand for phosphorus flame retardants is mainly due to:

1. The comprehensive cost advantage of halogen-free flame retardant engineering plastic polycarbonate PC is greatly improved

In recent years, due to the substantial increase in domestic PC production capacity, the price has fallen sharply. The price of PC has dropped from 38,500 yuan/ton in 2005 to about 14,000 yuan/ton, and the price of decabromodiphenylethane has risen sharply in recent years. The price rose from about 30,000 yuan/ton in 2017 to 60,000 yuan/ton.

The current PC+BDP flame retardant system is about 0.18 million yuan/ton lower than the ABS+ bromine flame retardant system. The cost advantage of PC+ halogen-free phosphorus flame retardant is very obvious. At the same time, the comprehensive performance of PC halogen-free flame retardant engineering plastics, Including mechanical properties, it is far superior to ABS engineering plastics.

2. The EU's halogen-free regulations will be enforced soon to promote the industrial upgrading of flame retardant customers

On December 5, 2019, the European Union issued regulations (EU) 2019/2021, which set out the eco-design requirements for electronic displays in the EU Eco-Design Directive for Energy-related Products (ErP Directive, 2009/125/EC). Halogen-based flame retardants are used in the shell and bracket; plastic parts greater than 50g should be clearly marked with material type. If they contain flame retardants, the corresponding information of the flame retardants must be marked. The new regulations will be officially implemented on March 1, 2021. .

Although the EU halogen-free regulations will be implemented on March 1 next year, affected companies need to make preparations in advance. For these companies, it takes time to change the mold, trial production and final mass production. Since the second half of last year, due to the different injection shrinkage rates of different engineering plastics, manufacturers have gradually begun to re-customize molds. The major halogen-free phosphorus flame retardants of several leading engineering plastics modification companies in the industry have experienced relatively large growth.

3. In recent years, environmental protection policies have led to a reduction in the production capacity of flame retardants;

From the supply side, the new production capacity in the next 2-3 years is very limited. In the past two years, except for the 20,000-ton engineering plastic flame retardant production line under construction by Wansheng, there is no other large production capacity that can be put into production. It is far from meeting market demand. At present, phosphorous flame retardant manufacturers are producing at full capacity, and the market atmosphere is active, which has caused recent prices to rise steadily. As of now, the mainstream market quotation is 25,000 yuan/ton. The cumulative increase this year has been More than 45%, even the phenomenon of queuing to order.

4. The demand for phosphorus flame retardants in new energy vehicles, electronic appliances and other industries continues to increase

According to industry sources, downstream customers are mainly auto parts companies and home appliance manufacturers. Originally, everyone's environmental protection concept was not strong, and bromine flame retardants were often used at low prices. But now it is different. With the mandatory promotion of policies, we have to correct the production process and use halogen-free flame retardants.
