On the morning of January 7, 2021, the Hengli (Huizhou) PTA project with a total investment of 15 billion yuan was started in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone in Huizhou, Guangdong, which was the first shot of Huizhou’s 14th Five-Year Plan.


The project is invested and constructed by the petrochemical giant Hengli Group, ranked 107 in the world's top 500 and ranked 4 in the top 500 Chinese private enterprises, and will add momentum to Huizhou's creation of a trillion-level petrochemical energy new material industrial cluster.


As a key project in Guangdong Province, Hengli (Huizhou) PTA project with a total investment of 15 billion yuan will build two 2.5 million tons/year PTA production lines with the largest monomer production capacity in the world, with large investment scale, strong production capacity, high technological level, Features such as low energy consumption.


The start of construction will adopt industry-leading green and intelligent PTA production technology, focusing on the construction of 5 million tons/year PTA equipment and auxiliary facilities. It is planned to be completed and put into production in one and a half years, and will achieve an annual output value of 20 billion yuan.


At present, Hengli Group has an annual production capacity of 12 million tons of PTA, the world's largest production scale. After Hengli (Huizhou) PTA project is fully put into operation, Hengli Group will achieve an annual production capacity of 17 million tons of PTA.


The full Chinese name of PTA is purified terephthalic acid. The PTA industry is an important hub linking the two pillar industries of the national economy, petrochemicals and chemical fiber textiles, and is at the core of the industry chain. Specifically, PTA reacts with upstream petrochemical products such as ethylene glycol produced by ethylene to mainly produce polyester (PET). Polyester can be processed into fibers, films and plastic products, and is widely used in packaging, electronics, medical and health, construction, automobiles and other fields.
