On October 10, Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. announced that the company's annual production of 200,000 tons of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and 132,000 tons of ethylene glycol project has been successfully started, and the production capacity of a single unit is the largest in the world.


This project uses the transesterification production process developed by Tangshan Haoyu Technology Development Co., Ltd., which is the first successful application of this process technology in China. The process uses ethylene oxide, carbon dioxide, and methanol as raw materials, and the produced dimethyl carbonate is an excellent gasoline and diesel additive, and the co-produced ethylene glycol product meets the polyester-grade standard.


According to the technical director of Tangshan Haoyu Company, this technology uses two process technologies. First, ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide are used to produce ethylene carbonate, and then ethylene carbonate and methanol are used for transesterification to produce dimethyl carbonate simultaneously. Ethylene glycol.


Among them, the first process technology was industrialized by Tangshan Chaoyang Chemical Plant in 1997. Previously, the largest domestic single set of this type of technology had an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons, and the total annual production capacity would not exceed 80,000 tons. To this end, the technical research team of Tangshan Haoyu Company has innovated 3 technologies to make a single set of equipment have an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons. The first is to innovate the green homogeneous ionic liquid synthesis catalyst, which makes the reaction conditions more mild, the conversion rate and the yield are greatly improved, the yield is increased from 90% to more than 95%, and there are few side reactions and high selectivity. 99.5% increased to over 99.9%. Second, the jet stream reactor was used to innovate the reaction system to solve the risk of a large amount of ethylene oxide entering the reaction system. The third is to innovate the ethylene carbonate separation system to solve the separation problem caused by the easy decomposition of ethylene carbonate.


The second process technology was originally created by Tangshan Haoyu Company, using 3 proprietary technologies independently developed by them. The first is a single set of device amplification technology, the maximum diameter of the device's rectification tower has reached 8 meters. The second is the full continuous production technology. The dimethyl carbonate and ethylene glycol product towers in the device can be used for single-tower side extraction, and the dimethyl carbonate product produced reaches the national standard superior grade with the main content of 99.9% or more. The product reaches the national standard polyester grade with the main content of 99.9% or more. The third is the energy integration system technology, which can recover all the high-level heat, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the process, and making the device comply with the sustainable development direction of green, environmental protection and energy saving.


The successful commissioning of this device will alleviate the domestic demand for ethylene carbonate products, and provide large-scale oil refineries with ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide with a low-investment and low-cost production route for polyester-grade ethylene glycol. Companies that produce polycarbonate in accordance with the French law provide a mature technical foundation.
