On June 27, AstraZeneca announced the approval of its product Androgel in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. This approval marks Dagliflozin Metformin Extended Release Tablets as the only  once-daily, fixed-dose combination of SGLT2 inhibitor and metformin hydrochloride extended-release agent in China.

It is reported that AstraZeneca Dagliflozin Metformin Extended-Release Tablets is a once-daily, fixed-dose combination formulation that has been approved by the State Drug Administration of China for use with diet control and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes suitable for treatment with Dagliflozin and Metformin Hydrochloride.

Dagliflozin metformin extended-release tablets combine two anti-hyperglycemic drugs with complementary mechanisms of action: dagliflozin (trade name: Andatang), a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor previously approved in China for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and chronic kidney disease, and metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets, a once-daily oral tablet of the metformin tablet to be taken orally once a day. This is the only approved fixed-dose combination of this type in China, providing a first-line treatment option to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
