Lyondell Basel: The 5 million tons production plant meets force majeure!

According to the letter from LyondellBasell to users, LyondellBasell closed the PP plant of the equistar chemicals company in Louisiana after being struck by lightning in the extreme weather recently.

It is reported that the lightning strike occurred on July 13. This accident caused the plant's public utilities to be interrupted and all production lines to be shut down. The company is evaluating the overall impact of the incident on the factory, and is working hard to restart, but currently LyondellBasel still does not have a complete start-up timetable. "

According to Standard & Poor's global Platts analysis data, the plant's PP production capacity totals 509,000 tons/year.

South Africa's largest oil refinery suspends production and delivery!

Sapref, the largest oil refinery in South Africa, announced that it has suspended production due to domestic protests and has encountered difficulties in the supply of all petroleum products. The entry and exit routes of Guazuluna province were disrupted. Sapref’s key raw material supplier informed that the delivery vehicles were damaged and the safety of the staff was worrying, so deliveries would be suspended.

On July 13, an oil refinery in Durban, South Africa also announced a suspension of production due to safety considerations.

At present, SASOL, the only international company in the world that conducts large-scale coal liquefaction to produce synthetic fuels, has declared force majeure.

Chevron permanently shuts down refineries in this area!

According to Reuters, Chevron is considering the permanent closure of the gasoline production fluid catalytic cracking unit at its 112,000 barrels per day refinery in Pasadena, Texas, as part of a possible reorganization of the plant.

The Saudi and Dutch installations are discontinued!

According to market sources, Sabic’s Yansab National Petrochemical Company (Yansab) recently unexpectedly shut down its PP and LLDPE plant. The plant is located in Saudi Arabia and has polypropylene (PP) and LLDPE (LLDPE) plants with production capacity. Both are 400,000 tons/year, and the company has not yet given a clear recovery plan.

Abroad, chemical spot supply is tight and pressing; domestic, major raw material manufacturers shut down more frequently for maintenance.

The products involved in the recent shutdown and maintenance include PTA, caprolactam, styrene, methanol, MDI, etc. The maintenance time is generally about 15 to 30 days. Although some devices are regularly scheduled to be overhauled, some manufacturers have made clear measures such as stopping product sales during the overhaul period, which still aroused suspicion of the "supply shortage" in the market.
