At 16:37 on April 9, a fire broke out in the aromatics plant of Yangzi Petrochemical. The Nanjing Fire Command Center immediately activated the chemical fire disposal plan, and mobilized fire rescue forces to the scene as soon as possible. At 17:14, the open flame at the scene was extinguished without casualties. The accident did not cause environmental pollution. The reason is under investigation.
A staff member near the scene of the incident tweeted,
"The company's doors were shook open, and the whole building was shaking. I thought there was an earthquake."
"I felt the shock wave hitting the glass and the horn of the fire truck from a kilometer away."
This is the second accident that occurred within a hundred days of Yangzi Petrochemical.
On January 12, 2021, the chemical plant of another subsidiary of Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd., a rubber company, exploded. Open flames and a large amount of smoke appeared on the scene, and the surrounding roads were quickly blocked. On January 21, Yangzi Petrochemical announced that in order to further consolidate the foundation of safety, the company decided to carry out the "100-days" with the theme of "anti-three violations and investigating hidden dangers" from January 15 to April 25 from January 15 to April 25. "Safety and no accidents" special action.
Yangzi Petrochemical currently has 58 large petrochemical plants including 12.5 million tons/year oil refining, 800,000 tons/year ethylene, 1.4 million tons/year aromatics, etc., which can produce synthetic resins, synthetic fiber raw materials, basic organic chemical raw materials, refined oil, and synthetics. There are more than 50 products in 5 categories, including rubber, and it is a major domestic producer of pure benzene, p-xylene, o-xylene, purified terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol, butadiene and ethylene oxide.
