India TPL Plans To Expand LAB And Caustic Soda Production Capacity

According to reports, India’s Tamilnadu Petroleum Products Co., Ltd. (TPL) plans to expand the production capacity of its linear alkyl benzene (LAB) and caustic soda plants, and to build a new propylene recovery plant in its plant in Manali, southern Tamil Nadu ( PRU) as part of its capacity expansion plan. The expansion project is expected to cost approximately 4.35 billion rupees (US$59.2 million). The company plans to increase the capacity of its LAB unit from the current 120,000 tons/year to 145,000 tons/year. The project will cost 2.4 billion rupees and will be put into production within 24 months after obtaining all regulatory approvals. TPL also plans to invest 1.65 billion rupees to modernize its caustic soda plant, increasing the capacity of the plant from the current 150 tons/day to 250 tons/day, and put it into operation within 18 months after obtaining all regulatory approvals. TPL will also build a 21,000-ton/year propylene recovery unit, with an estimated investment of 300 million rupees. The plant will meet the raw material demand of its 16,000-ton/year propylene oxide (PO) plant.
