1. It is an important precursor for the synthesis of bifidogenic factors and possesses numerous crucial physiological functions in organisms. Clinically, it is a drug for treating rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic arthritis; it also serves as a food antioxidant, an additive in infant food, and a sweetener for diabetics.
2. It is a derivatized glucose monomer found in polymers such as bacterial cell walls, chitin, hyaluronic acid, and various glycans. D-GlcNAc is used to identify, differentiate, and characterize N-acetyl-β-D-hexosaminidase.
3. N-acetylglucosamine is a basic component unit of many important polysaccharides in biological cells, with the highest content particularly in the exoskeletons of crustaceans. It is an important precursor for the synthesis of bifidogenic factors and has many vital physiological functions in organisms.
