On February 1, 2021, Zhucheng, Weifang, Shandong issued a notice stating that on January 31, an illegal dumping of chemical waste occurred in Shunwang Street, Zhucheng, Shandong, resulting in multiple hospitalizations, of which 4 people died of poisoning. Sent to hospital for treatment.

After the accident, the local fire protection, medical care, environment, emergency and other departments rushed to the scene as soon as possible and quickly dealt with the situation on the scene. These toxic substances are liquids and were transported from other places to a street sewer in Jiankou Village and discharged . To ensure the safety of residents, residents near the incident were evacuated to prevent more accidents.

According to an emergency on-site investigation by relevant experts, it was initially determined that the poisoning was caused by harmful gases generated by the volatilization of illegally dumped chemical wastes. Four poisoned persons died after full rescue efforts. In addition to 4 people who died, 3 people were rescued in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Zhucheng People's Hospital, and dozens of people were hospitalized in general wards for observation.

According to the preliminary judgment of the medical team, the toxic substance is hydrogen sulfide, a highly toxic chemical. After hydrogen sulfide reaches a certain concentration, the human body will be strongly affected even if it is inhaled briefly. In order to rescue the poisoned villagers, two of the medical staff have had mild poisoning reactions.

According to the investigation by the public security agency, the factory that dumped chemical waste liquid into Jiankou Village was a small workshop of five people. It was opened in mid-December 2020 and mainly produces chemical products.

At present, the public security organ has established a criminal case, the relevant persons responsible have been controlled, and the case is under further investigation.
