Sulbactam sodium Usage And Synthesis
| Description | Sulbactam sodium is a parenterally-active, β-lactamase inhibitor recently introduced as a 1: 1 combination product with cefoperazone. Like clavulanic acid, the first agent of this type to b e introduced, sulbactam enhances the effectiveness of β-lactam antibiotics against resistant strains. |
| Chemical Properties | White Solid |
| Uses | A semi-synthetic β-lactamase inhibitor. It is used in combination with β-lactam antibiotics as antibacterial. |
| Definition | ChEBI: Sulbactam sodium is an organooxygen compound and an organonitrogen compound. It is functionally related to an alpha-amino acid. |
Sulbactam sodium is an irreversible competitive β -lactamase inhibitor, which suppresses the β -lactamase produced by gram-positive and negative bacteria (except P. aeruginosa), inactivates the enzyme after irreversible reaction with the enzyme, and can not restore the enzyme activity after removal of the inhibitor. Sulbactam sodium has a strong and irreversible inhibition of the β -lactamase produced by S. aureum and most Gram-negative bacilli.2 μg/ml concentration strongly inhibited Richmond-Syks,, and V β -lactamidase strongly, but had no effect on type I β -lactamidase. Penicillins and cephalosporins can be synergistic when combined with sulbactam sodium, so that the MIC of Staphylococcus, influenzae, E. coli, E. fragilis resistant to the first two classes of antibiotics fall within the sensitive range.
