It is slightly soluble in chlorinated hydrocarbons, ethers, toluene, and benzene. The product is prone to caking and has a melting point of 99–100°C. It is used in the synthesis of amino acid protectants, semisynthetic kanamycin, and pharmaceutical intermediates.
